about Cymbolic
//   Cymbolic defines a new genre in music: ambient synth rock. Drawing upon influences from Chicago, San Diego, and England, Cymbolic meshes the best of rock, electronica, and alternative into one tightly wound package. Nothing sounds quite like it.

Upon releasing their new album Between Walls, this group has received national acclaim, including reviews in The Phantom Tollbooth and some international radio play. If you haven't heard Cymbolic, you're sadly behind the times. What are you waiting for? [Click here for a press release.]

//   The name Cymbolic combines two significant concepts that the band desires to integrate-- the first being "cymbol" and the second being "symbolic." A cymbol, of course, is an instrument with metallic resonation, while symbolic is when a person or object reminds of the externally grandiose or mysterious.

The combining of these two words was inspired by a psalm (115:1), which speaks of reflecting God's glory from mere mortals. In the view of Cymbolic, all people should be living, moving, breathing symbols of who God is, and it is through this mindset that the band performs. "May the glory never be directed at the band," says Joel Jupp, "but 'may we become lesser, so that He may become greater.' "

//   Taking a look back, Cymbolic was formed by Joel Jupp in August, 2001, shortly after performing at Tippecanoe Baptist Camp in northern Indiana. Inspired by an invitation to play at a youth retreat, Joel began his first tour-- a goal that eventually fruitioned beyond his wildest imagination. Everyone loved the music!

As time progressed, a drummer and bass player were added, as well as several fill-in guitarists. A multitude of opportunities arose, from camps to conventions to coffeehouses, inspiring Joel Jupp to record two solo projects-- "Solace" and "Ornaments". Both have received rave reviews!
